  Instructional Design Methodology

Every course we develop goes through a rigorous 5 step instructional design process to guarantee the quality of the finished product.

ANALYZE

In the analysis stage, we work with you to determine exactly what systems or areas require training support and identify the specific training needs for each. From there, we identify specific training programs and create a comprehensive task inventory (tasks, skills, concepts, processes, etc.) of the tasks that need to be mastered for the program to be successful. These tasks are then organized into a logical sequence of lessons that will make sense to the learner. Next, we chose an appropriate instructional method (e.g. classroom training, e-Learning, etc.) to use to deliver the course and determine how student performance will be measured. Once all this is done, we deliver our Training Analysis along with an estimated cost and timeframe for developing the training.

DESIGN

During the design phase, we first develop detailed course description for each course. This includes the course title, course description, prerequisites, audience definition, course length, the breakdown of the lessons, and the specific learning objectives for each lesson.
We also identify client subject matter experts, in-house staffing needs (graphic designers, audio/video specialists, editors, etc.), the case study to be used to teach the course, course development tools, testing strategies, and the like.
All of this results in a detailed Course Specification that becomes the foundation for developing your course.
To guide the implementation of the Course Specification, our project managers develop a comprehensive Project Plan for each course and use it to monitor the development process to ensure that your course is being delivered on time and meets your needs.

DEVELOP

During the development phase, our training development team creates your course. First, our instructional designers develop a complete storyboard for your course based on the requirements in the Course Specification document.
The storyboard typically includes detailed information on the course layout or interface (for e-Learning), lesson content and interactions (including graphics, audio, and video), pre-test and post test information, and an evaluation form. It could also include a glossary of terms, topical index, and any other special sections or features you want in your course.
Once the storyboard is written and approved by you, our development team uses it to build the course. As lessons are completed, they are sent to the you for review and revised as needed. When the entire course is assembled, we do a beta test at your site to ensure that the course meets your needs. Any feedback from the beta test is implemented and then the course is given back to you for final review and signoff.

IMPLEMENT

In the Implementation phase, we work with you to create a management plan for implementing the training program. This could involve delivering a train-the-trainer program for your in-house instructors or determining how to blend your instructor led training with your e-Learning courses.

EVALUATE

In reality, the evaluation process occurs at all stages of the development cycle to ensure it is meeting your needs. Once the course is in the field, it’s also important to regularly assess both effectiveness of the course and the performance of your employees on the job. We provide tools to help you do both and work with you to improve the training whenever it’s necessary.
